Looking Forward: Evoking the Warmth of Late Summer Evenings
Lately, I’ve found myself reaching for the warmth of summer—specifically, the soft, golden light of a late summer evening. There’s something special about those days, when the sun hangs low in the sky, casting everything in a warm glow. It’s a fleeting time, just before autumn’s chill starts creeping in, when the world feels peaceful and full of promise.
In my new series of paintings, I’m trying to capture that feeling—the warmth of the fading sun, the stillness in the air, and the sense of calm that comes with the end of a long summer day. These paintings aren’t just about recreating a scene; they’re about remembering that sense of comfort, the way the light wraps around you and the world feels just a little bit more alive. I want to transport people back to those moments—the ones that seem to slow time down, where everything feels perfect, if only for a brief while.
I think we all long for that warmth, especially as the days get shorter and the weather cools. It’s easy to forget just how quickly summer passes, how soon those long, bright evenings will return. These paintings are my way of holding on to that memory, of reminding myself—and others—that those warm days will come again before we know it. And in the meantime, they’re here, captured in colour and light, waiting to bring us that same comfort once more.
So, as I dive into these pieces, I’m not just painting landscapes. I’m painting moments, emotions, and memories. I’m looking forward with the hope that those late summer evenings are just around the corner—and they’re coming quicker than we think.
